This week we had our first small 'hiccup':
because the weather didn't cooperate with us too much (and the temperature was always too low), we were not able to have the house painted as planned, it will now probably happen next year in February-March.
But at least the 'blower door test' went ahead as scheduled.
What this test is supposed to do is to show the architect (and us:-) if there are any spots in the house where air (and heat) can escape, or cold air from outside can get in.
What the TÜV did was to setup a special 'blower' in a window, so that they could either blow air from the house out, or from inside into the house.
They then had some special measurement devices that would tell them the degree of 'insulation' of the house.
In the last picture you can also see Karin playing with a toy that they use to test where air might leak from inside to the outside: the toy would produces smoke, and you can easily see if the smoke (under the pressure of the 'blower') escapes through a leak in a window etc.
End result: the house appears to be even more insulated than the architect planned, a good result :-)
Now there will be a few weeks of vacation for Christmas and New Year, work should start again middle of January.
